Seniors graduating from District of Columbia public high schools, including charter schools, may apply for First Year Awards from the Abramson Scholarship Foundation. Recipients must demonstrate that they have solid academic records, a history of “giving back” to their communities and financial need. In following years, First Year Award recipients may apply for Continuing Awards for each of their subsequent three years of college. To qualify, they must continue to meet the original criteria and must have an ongoing relationship with their mentors and the Mentoring Program. Award amounts increase each year. Continuing Awards grow over time because the Foundation has learned that other sources of financial aid tend to diminish and disappear as students progress through college – although their need for such funds does not. These grants are intended to help supplement the financial aid packages they receive from their colleges.
