Michelle Obama

We are pleased to announce that First Lady Michelle Obama visited Bell Multicultural High School yesterday and told the story of (and introduced) our 2013 Abramson Scholar Roger Sanchez, who immigrated from the Dominican Republic in 5th grade, taught himself English, and graduated high school as a scholar-athlete with nearly a 4.0.

Mrs. Obama used Roger’s story in her speech to underscore the importance of hard work and education: “So every day, students like…Roger and all of you are proving that it is not your circumstance that define your future — it’s your attitude. It’s your commitment. You decide how high you set your goals. You decide how hard you’re going to work for those goals. You decide how you’re going to respond when something doesn’t go your way.”

We are proud of Roger and all of our Scholars.
